GORDON HAYWARD JOINS BEASTCOAST AS SENIOR INVESTOR NBA star to support hometown esports organization through strategic investment and growth
INDIANAPOLIS, IN (November 15, 2022) — Beastcoast, a leading North American esports organization, today announced that it has secured significant investment from NBA star Gordon Hayward. With this investment, the Charlotte Hornets forward joins Beastcoast as a senior advisor who will support the esports organization as it further deepens its roots in Hayward’s home state of Indiana.
In August 2022, Beastcoast announced a partnership with Butler University — Hayward’s alma mater — and became the newest tennant at Esports Park, a new on-campus esports and gaming facility. Beastcoast CEO Grant Zinn and key operational personnel have relocated to Indianapolis as the organization expands its relationships in the collegiate gaming community.
“Thanks to our incredible relationship with Butler, we were able to connect with Gordon and introduce him to the Beastcoast family,” said Zinn. “I’ve always admired how Gordon uses his platform as an NBA player to advocate for the gaming community, so it made complete sense to partner with him as we take the next step as an esports organization.”
A lifelong gamer, Gordon Hayward first rose to national prominence when he led Butler University to the national championship game of 2010 NCAA DI Men’s Basketball Tournament. He was selected 9th overall by the Utah Jazz in 2010 NBA Draft, and has played professional basketball since then. Off the court, Hayward enjoys playing League of Legends, Starcraft II and Fortnite. He has consistently acted as a gaming evangelist within the traditional sports community, and has proactively turned his passion for gaming into numerous charity initiatives that support children’s causes.
“Gaming has always been a huge part of my life, and I’m genuinely excited to support Grant, as he continues to grow his vision for Beastcoast.” said Hayward. “Ideally, by creating this unique partnership with Butler it will provide a pathway to push Beastcoast and Butler to the forefront of the gaming industry.”
Beastcoast continues to make waves in top esports titles, with its Dota 2 roster recently competing at The International, one of the world’s most prestigious esports events. It also boasts an impressive presence in Pokémon VGC, Pokémon TCG, and the wider Fighting Game Community. This year, Beastcoast partnered with 1,000 Dreams Fund to help support women in gaming, a pillar of its commitment to diversity and inclusion in the gaming and esports space.
